Safeguarding children level 3 training explains advanced safeguarding responsibilities, risk identification, and reporting procedures for professionals responsible for protecting children.

Individuals with safeguarding decision-making responsibilities, such as safeguarding leads, healthcare staff, teachers, and social care workers, often require level 3 safeguarding training online.

Safeguarding children means protecting children from maltreatment, harm and neglect and ensuring their health, welfare and development are not impaired. It also involves providing safe environments and preventing abuse in all settings where children live, learn or play.

‘Safeguarding’ refers to the preventative work to keep children safe and promote wellbeing, whereas child protection is the specific action taken when a child is suffering, or at risk of suffering, significant harm. Safeguarding includes child protection as part of its wider remit.

Everyone has a role to play in safeguarding children, but organisations and individuals who work directly with children (like teachers, health professionals, social workers, and volunteers) have specific legal duties under UK safeguarding laws and guidance to recognise concerns, report them, and take appropriate action.

Safeguarding training helps you understand how to spot signs of abuse or neglect, respond appropriately, and follow legal reporting routes. The level of training often depends on your role: frontline child-facing roles require more in-depth DBS checks and enhanced safeguarding training, while general awareness training is suitable for broader roles.
